BERITA SOLO | JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto has signaled that Indonesia is open to reviewing its participation in the Board of Peace (BOP), an international forum established by United States President Donald Trump.
This step could be considered if the institution's developments are deemed inconsistent with humanitarian interests, particularly regarding the situation in Palestine and Gaza.
This was conveyed by the former Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Abraham Samad, who revealed the contents of Prabowo's discussions in a meeting regarding Indonesia's position in the forum.
According to Abraham Samad, President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia's joining the Board of Peace is not a final and permanent decision.
The government will continue to evaluate the impact and direction of the institution's policies on world peace.
"Indonesia continues to prioritize humanitarian interests and justice as the main principles of its foreign policy," said Abraham Samad.
Prabowo also emphasized Indonesia's strong commitment to supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people and encouraging the creation of a just and peaceful solution in the Middle East.
Therefore, all international cooperation will be measured by its benefits to global stability and humanitarian values.
The Indonesian government emphasizes that participation in international forums aims to strengthen peaceful diplomacy and maintain Indonesia's active role in conflict resolution efforts through dialogue and negotiation.
To date, there has been no official decision regarding Indonesia's withdrawal from the Peace Council. The government is still reviewing and monitoring the future policy direction of the institution.
This step demonstrates Indonesia's continued commitment to an independent and active foreign policy, while continuing to champion world peace and protect international humanitarian interests. (*)
