The DPR supports BIN directly under the President

BERITASOLO ■ The current position of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) is directly under the President of Indonesia. This is in accordance with Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 73/2020 concerning the Ministry of Politics, Law and Security (Kemenko Polhukam).

The change in position was supported by House Commission I Member Muhammad Iqbal.

According to him it was the right step, because it was natural for BIN to be directly under the head of state.

"I think it's right, it should have been that long ago. Because it shortens the institutional bureaucratic process, "Iqbal told reporters on Monday (7/20).

Iqbal said, the function and task of BIN was to provide confidential information. So that all matters relating to the security conditions of the state head of state can find out.

"Of course, he hopes that BIN can directly coordinate with the President, so the policy decisions to be taken by the President regarding the condition of our country's security can be faster," the PPP politician added.

It is known, President Jokowi issued Perpres Number 73 of 2020 concerning Kemenko Polhukam. Article 4 of the Perpres no longer includes BIN under the Coordinating Ministry for Politics and Security.

In contrast to the previous rules, namely Perpres Number 43 of 2015 concerning Kemenko Polhukam which is stated explicitly that BIN is under the coordination of Kemenko Polhukam.

Article 4 of the Perpres explains that the Coordinating Ministry for Politics and Security only coordinates the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Ministry of Communication and Information, the Ministry of Administrative Reform of the Bureaucratic Reform, the Attorney General's Office, the Indonesian Armed Forces and the National Police.
