Los Incas completed the list of the last four contestants after successfully eliminating the more favored team, Uruguay. Conducted a quarterfinal match at Arena Fonte Nova, Sunday (6/30/2019) morning WIB, Peru won 5-4 on penalties after a balanced 0-0 in normal time.
Uruguay failed to escape the failure of its star player, Luis Suarez, on penalties. Forward as the first kicker, the Barcelona striker's shot was pushed over by the opposing goalkeeper.
Furthermore, Peru will challenge the defending champions twice, Chile, in the semifinals which will be held on Thursday (04/07/2019) morning WIB. Chile escaped after winning 5-4 (0-0) on penalties against Colombia.
On paper, Chile is again seeded. However, Peru proved to be difficult for La Rojas because in three meetings in the last competitive match, Chile won with a thin score.
Another semifinal party will hold a classic match between Brazil vs Argentina, Wednesday (3/7) morning WIB. Brazil strolled after winning a penalty shootout against Paraguay 4-3 after drawing 0-0 in normal time. While Argentina shifted Venezuela 2-0.
The Brazilian duel against Argentina was the first in a competitive match since 2016. At the last meeting, Brazil won 3-0 in 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
